On Friday evening, after much contact with the Department of Education, I received confirmation that we can begin to facilitate book collection.
From today school staff are permitted to enter the school building to prepare to distribute the books. As you can imagine due to the size of the school this will take some time as ensuring health and safety of everyone involved is the priority. Adhering to strict guidelines from the HSE will mean that the books will be ready for collection next week, week beginning 25th May. No parents will have access to the school before this.
The school will open on Monday 25th May and Tuesday 26th May from 10am to 1pm for families with more than one child in school to collect their children’s books.
Wednesday 27th May and Thursday 28th May the school will be open for all other parents to collect their children’s books from 10am to 1pm.
The school building will be cleaned after each day’s collections.
To keep numbers in school at a minimum and to help keep everyone safe we ask that only one adult per family comes to collect the books and that no children are brought to school.
The main school gate will be open for pedestrian access only and parents will be asked to walk in on the right hand side of the avenue. There will be markings on the footpath, similar to outside supermarkets etc., and you will be asked to queue along the footpath by the GAA field, around by the main entrance and enter the school hall by the door at the front used on wet mornings.
Hand sanitiser will be provided at the entrance and we ask that all people entering the building sanitise their hands on entry.
Please ensure that you keep 2m distance from others while queuing and collecting the books and note that there will be no opportunity to speak to teachers on these days.
The books will be arranged by class in the hall with the class teacher’s name displayed on the wall. Parents will enter from the door at the front of the hall, collect their child/children’s books and exit by the emergency doors on the other side of the hall into the yard then walk out along the path to the exit at the main gate.
These arrangements will allow for safe collection of the books to help with the children’s learning at home for the remainder of the school year. Please note it will not be possible to accommodate book collections outside of the planned dates and times.
