From the 4th February to the 10th of February marked our annual Green Schools week in St. Mary’s National School. Students have had to chance to take part in a number of activities based around our current theme of Travel. Students have learned about how to reduce our carbon footprint through; litter picking, learning about the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals through our Global Goals Book Club, mapping our sustainable way
to school and designing posters based on the Green Schools slogan; ‘Love our Health, love our Planet!
The Green Schools Committee also took part in a traffic survey in Saggart village with our An Taisce Green Schools Travel Officer, Julianne Pickard. The committee collected a lot a valuable data in relation to the volume of traffic and the speed that traffic travels at through Saggart Village. A big thank you to Julianne for undertaking the study with the committee.
Walk on Wednesday took place on Wednesday 5th February and to the Green School Committee’s amazement, a total of 349 students took part. A huge thank you from our Green Schools Committee, to all of the students and teachers who took part in our Green Schools Week.
