The students in Mr. Fegan’s class had lots of fun combining Maths and ICT in our latest Scratch/maths lesson!

The students used Scratch’s Pen tool to create their own spirograph-style animations. They experimented with repeating patterns, angles, turns, movement and pen colours to see how small changes in the code could create completely different designs.

It was a great opportunity to put some maths into action, particularly looking at angles, rotation, repetition and patterns. The pupils quickly discovered that changing the angle or number of repeats could completely change the final design.

We also learned a useful new digital skill — AirDropping our finished designs to the teacher’s iPad. This meant we could easily collect and share everyone’s creations, and post them on our website. A great lesson combining coding, creativity, maths and digital skills!
