Mr Fegan’s class are very fortunate to be participating in the TAP+ Artist-in-the-Classroom programme this January, welcoming professional dance artist Yasmin for an intensive series of movement-based dance workshops. Over the course of the month, Yasmin will spend 14 hours working with the class, guiding pupils through creative, physical, and collaborative dance experiences that place movement, expression, and wellbeing at the centre of learning.
Each session is carefully structured to support both creativity and classroom management. Lessons begin with preparation activities that help pupils transition into a movement mindset. These warm-ups focus on body awareness, breathing, posture, and spatial awareness, allowing students to become comfortable using their bodies as a form of expression while also tuning in to the shared space around them. This initial phase helps establish focus, respect, and readiness for creative work.
The TAP+ programme provides a valuable opportunity for pupils to work closely with a professional artist, gaining insight into dance as an art form and as a process of exploration and collaboration.
